The 3 Closest Airports to Leesburg, Virginia
Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD)
If you’re coming to Leesburg, then your closest airport will be Washington Dulles. It’s a large international airport, so you could fly in from anywhere in the world. Washington Dulles is located just 13 miles to the east of Leesburg so you have many options for travel into town. Rideshares like Uber and Lyft as well as taxis are very easy to get at the airport, and you have plenty of options for renting a car. If you will be spending your time primarily in downtown Leesburg it’s very walkable and you don’t need a vehicle of your own.
Before making the trip into town, you may want to check out the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center annex of the National Air and Space Museum, which is located right beside the airport. They have the space shuttle Discovery there. If you’re a space buff, Discovery has flown the most missions out of any spacecraft in history and deployed the Hubble telescope. Pretty cool!
Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA)
Your next closest airport is Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport which is approximately 35 miles southeast of Leesburg. This is a smaller airport and mostly serves domestic flights, but there are some international flights from Canada and the Caribbean that land there. You can still easily get rideshare services or taxis here, but the fares will be higher since you’re further away. There is a bus you can take, or you may want to rent a car to take in the numerous points of interest along the way.
While you are in the DC area you can visit many attractions before making your way to Leesburg. There is the Arlington National Cemetery where you can see the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier as well as many memorials and monuments. The National Mall in Washington is definitely worth a visit, it contains many well known landmarks such as the Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Monument, and the Smithsonian National Museum of American History. You can always visit the White House and go on a tour as well!

Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI)
Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport is a fair distance from Leesburg (60 miles) but there are many interesting things to see along the way. If you’re planning to travel from BWI to Leesburg I’d recommend renting a vehicle, even if you don’t plan on driving while in Leesburg. You can always drop it off at the Washington Dulles airport and take a taxi or rideshare into town.
Easily the most exciting attraction between BWI and Leesburg is the Six Flags America amusement park. If you have kids, they’ll have an absolute blast on the rides and roller coasters. There is also the National Aquarium with sharks, dolphins, and plenty of fish from around the world to see up close and in person. If you’re a history buff (I’d guess you’re at least interested if you’re coming to Leesburg!) then you should make a stop at the Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine.
So there you have it, those are the three closest airports to beautiful Leesburg, VA. See you soon!
